In my 12+ years working with professional and developing dancers and through my involvement with the Performance Arts Medicine Association and Dance USA Task Force, I have a unique and thorough understanding of the special needs required by the dancer.
If you are a dancer, you are an athlete
Dancing requires incredible athleticism, conditioning, and physical expression. The often-overlooked reality is that if you are a dancer, you are an athlete.
Dance injury management plans need to take into account the dancers’ goals, timelines, and return to play requirements, just like with any other sports injury recovery plan.
Consideration of the unique needs of a dancer
Special consideration should be given to the dancers’ unique psychosocial needs, an often overlooked aspect of the performance artist.
Dancers, like other performance artists, need to return to a high level of function in a predictable, and time-efficient manner. Why? auditions, recitals, and performances are always around the corner, and competition for precious opportunities is never sparse.
In addition, the unfortunate reality is that dancers typically receive less support, and have less access to quality care than their athlete counterparts.
Dancers deserve the quality of care that is required to keep them at the top of their game, pushing the boundaries of human performance and artistic expression.
Why you should trust me with your dance injury management needs
A comprehensive understanding of a dance injury requires:
- Vast experience working with dancers
- The knowledge of dance-related injuries, many of which are unique to dancers
- Understanding the anatomical adaptations of a dancer’s body
- Understanding the unique functional demands of dancers, and having a standardized approach to assessing (and re-assessing) this function
Having spent most of my career working with professional and developing dancers at Ballet Jorgen Canada, I believe I have the experience and expertise necessary to help dancers of all ages and disciplines.
If you or your child are a dancer and looking for comprehensive care from an experienced professional… We should talk.
